1. 中國建築是?有這樣的姿態：創作與心照?宣或暗?的批評相連？ How would you answer this question? Are you already able to summarize your conclusions?
2. In Shenzhen you also mentioned that ‘one of the motivations of contemporary Chinese architecture is a return to a “basic architecture” or taking up an interest in materiality’. By looking at the works of young architects the results are already visible. How would you explain such a motivation and who exactly shares this motivation? Could it also serve as an explanation for not anticipating on a chaotic and fast changing urban surrounding in the design process?
3. In your article for Domus (November 2003) you described the difficulties of an architectural discourse in the making in the 1980s and 1990s. Many arguments were brought in, but is it possible for you to be even more precise in explaining how Chinese architects and scholars interpret and use information coming from the West (also in regard to the ‘shiny new theories’ you mentioned) especially in the most recent years? How has this become visible? Are they interested in particular names, books and countries? In your article you mentioned that a deeper transformation of architecture in China started to take place by increasing collaborations. Is it possible to illustrate this?
4. Is it possible for you to explain the importance and influence of ABBS from your personal experience being a moderator on this particular website? How would you characterize the debate and what have been the most discussed topics? Do you know how many people are registered, how would you typify them or how can they be categorized?
5. And off the record: I can only find limited information on the architecture climate during the cultural revolution (1965-1969). It was obviously not allowed to have a private office in those years, but did large design institutes exist and how fast did they grow after 1969 and/or 1979 respectively? How officially was architecture forbidden in those years? Did anything change between 1969 and 1979? And is it true that architects could start a private office only from 1993 onwards? It would already be great if you could help me out with some facts and figures.
